In September 2008, Hurricane Ike swept across the Greater Antilles and Northern America causing a considerable amount of damage and tragically claiming 195 fatalities. Most of the damage caused by Hurricane Ike was in Cuba and Texas. This 10-minute-long documentary visits Galveston, Texas, an island which ended up losing $24.8 billion because of Ike and saw homes being flattened and towns obliterated. This film speaks to residents who recall their experiences of Hurricane Ike and the aftermath of the storm where people were left devastated in long ques waiting for food to arrive, being stripped of their belongings and having no lights to turn on. The contributors are Leon Phillips the second a retired sky cap for American Airlines, Jonathan Henry, a 14-year-old freshman, Jada, who works as a drag queen, and his son Paul who makes a small contribution. As well as gaining insight into their own personal experiences with the Hurricane this documentary gets their perspective on how the black community was left worse off by the aftermath of the storm and their views on climate change. Having experienced the effects of climate change first-hand they give their perspective on the future of the land they call home.
